I was recently at a customer where they were having several challenges backing up 100 plus ESX guests using VCB.  Some of the challenges they faced were a multi-step restore process, backup of virtual disks that were RDM (Raw Device Mapping) in physical compatibility mode, and the fact that VCB is no longer going to be supported.  They were running ESX Version 4.0 on Hitachi storage so we made the recommendation to implement vSphere integrated backups with NetBackup.
